Custom-fabricated standing seam metal roofing designed for Colorado's demanding mountain climate. Built in our own shop and professionally installed throughout the Vail Valley, Aspen, and surrounding mountain communities.
Why Metal Roofing
Colorado's mountain environment puts roofing systems through demanding conditions. Heavy snow, intense sun, high winds, temperature swings, and repeated freeze-thaw cycles can all take a toll on roofing materials, fasteners, flashings, and other critical components.
Standing seam metal roofing is exceptionally well suited for these conditions. Its concealed-fastener design, long service life, low maintenance requirements, and excellent weather performance make it a strong choice for mountain homes. When properly designed and installed, a standing seam system can provide decades of dependable protection while maintaining a clean architectural appearance.
At Rocky Valley Contractors, we take that performance a step further by custom fabricating our metal roofing panels, flashings, and details in our own shop for each project. This allows us to tailor the system to the home's roof design while maintaining greater control over fit, quality, and finished appearance.
Quick Answer: Standing seam metal roofing is a long-term roofing solution with a typical service life of 40–70+ years, depending on the material, finish, installation, environment, and maintenance. With custom fabrication and professional installation, it offers an excellent combination of durability, longevity, and architectural appeal for Colorado mountain homes.

Why Choose Metal
Standing seam metal roofing performs exceptionally well in mountain conditions. Its smooth surface helps manage snow accumulation, while properly designed snow retention systems can control snow and ice release around entrances, walkways, decks, and other critical areas.
A properly installed standing seam metal roof can provide a typical service life of 40–70+ years, depending on the material, finish, environment, and maintenance. That makes metal an excellent long-term roofing option for Colorado mountain homes.
Metal is a noncombustible roofing material and can be used as part of a Class A fire-rated roof assembly. This makes it particularly well suited for homes in Colorado's mountain and wildfire-prone communities.
Standing seam roofing uses concealed fasteners, protecting critical connections from direct exposure to the elements. Routine inspections and maintenance are still recommended, but metal generally requires less maintenance than many traditional roofing materials.
Our standing seam panels, flashings, and roofing details are custom fabricated in our own shop for each project, giving us greater control over dimensions, fit, quality, and finished appearance.
Standing seam metal provides clean lines and a distinctive architectural finish that complements everything from traditional mountain homes to contemporary custom designs. A variety of colors and finishes allows the roofing system to become part of the home's overall design.

Materials & Systems
Every metal roof is built around the specific home. We custom fabricate our panels, flashings, and details in-house and design each system around the roof's architecture, drainage, ventilation, and mountain conditions.
Custom Fabricated
Our standing seam steel panels are custom fabricated in our own shop for each project, allowing us to control panel dimensions, fit, and finishing details. Concealed fasteners create a clean architectural appearance while protecting critical connections from direct weather exposure.
In-House Craftsmanship
Roof edges, valleys, walls, chimneys, crickets, and other transitions require precise detailing. We fabricate our metal flashings and components in-house to fit the specific conditions of each roof and create a cohesive finished system.
Premium Finishes
Standing seam metal is available in a variety of premium colors and finishes, allowing the roof to complement everything from traditional mountain architecture to contemporary custom homes. We help homeowners select an option that works with the home's overall design.
Snow Management
Metal roofs can release accumulated snow and ice quickly, making proper snow management especially important around entrances, walkways, decks, driveways, and other occupied areas. Snow retention systems can be incorporated based on the roof design and project requirements.
Roof Performance
A high-performing metal roof is more than the panels you see. We evaluate underlayment, waterproofing, ventilation, flashing, and critical roof transitions as part of the complete roofing system.
Waterproofing
Colorado mountain roofs require careful attention to waterproofing. We install ice-and-water protection and underlayment based on the roof design, manufacturer requirements, and applicable building codes, with particular attention to eaves, valleys, walls, penetrations, and other vulnerable areas.
How It Works
From first call to final walkthrough — here's what working with Rocky Valley Contractors looks like.
01
We evaluate your existing roof, take measurements, review access and roof conditions, and discuss your goals for the project. We'll then provide a detailed proposal based on the specific needs of your home.
02
We help you select the panel profile, color, finish, and other roofing details that complement your home. We also review important considerations such as snow retention, ventilation, drainage, and architectural requirements.
03
Existing roofing is removed as needed and the roof deck is inspected before installation continues. We address necessary decking repairs and install the appropriate waterproofing, underlayment, flashing, and ventilation components to prepare the roof for the new metal system.
04
Your standing seam panels, flashings, and custom metal details are fabricated in our own shop specifically for your project. Our team installs the roofing system with careful attention to seams, transitions, penetrations, snow management, and finishing details before completing a final inspection and cleanup.
Common Questions
How long does a metal roof last in Colorado's mountain climate?
A properly installed standing seam metal roof in the Vail Valley should last 50–70 years with normal maintenance. The Kynar 500 PVDF coating on steel panels carries a 40-year manufacturer warranty against fading and chalking. The panel and fastener system itself is essentially permanent if installed correctly. We've seen metal roofs installed in the 1970s on Colorado mountain properties that are still performing well today.
Is my property in a WUI fire zone and does that affect my roofing choices?
Colorado's updated Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) code, effective July 1, 2025, requires Class A fire-rated roofing materials when a roof replacement covers more than 25% of the total roof area in a designated WUI zone. Large portions of Vail, Avon, Edwards, and surrounding hillside communities fall within WUI boundaries. We confirm your property's WUI status before every project and ensure full code compliance. Metal roofing automatically satisfies the Class A requirement.
Does a metal roof make more noise when it rains or hails?
Not in a residential installation. The noise concern comes from metal roofing installed over open framing — like a barn or agricultural building. On a residential home with solid roof decking, plywood sheeting, and an attic space below, a standing seam metal roof is no louder than asphalt shingles during rain or hail. Most homeowners report no noticeable difference in interior sound after switching to metal.
Can I install a metal roof over my existing shingles?
In some cases, yes — but we generally recommend a full tear-off. Installing over existing shingles saves the tear-off labor cost, but it prevents inspection of the roof deck for rot, soft spots, or moisture damage. In the Vail Valley's climate, deck damage is common underneath aging shingle roofs, and missing it means building a premium metal roof on a compromised foundation. We'll give you our honest recommendation after we inspect your existing roof.
Do you handle permits for metal roofing in Eagle County?
Yes. We pull all required building permits through Eagle County and the relevant municipal building departments. In HOA-governed communities like Cordillera, Arrowhead, and Beaver Creek, we also handle the architectural review board submission and approval process. We've done this many times and understand each community's specific requirements and timelines.
